Why it matters

Every other system on this diagram depends on clean, resilient power. Electrical is where an upgrade project either enables the future or gets in its way.

Mechanical

Ventilation, heating, cooling, water services — the systems that make the station survivable.

Why it matters

Underground environments are hostile: warm, dusty, humid. Mechanical systems keep passengers comfortable and staff safe, and they interface with fire in ways that matter during an incident.

Fire Detection & SuppressionRead

Fire Detection & Suppression

Detects smoke, calls the fire brigade, and — where designed — suppresses the fire itself.

Why it matters

In a tunnel, minutes matter and evacuation is complex. Early detection is the difference between an incident and a disaster.

Comms

The nervous system: passenger information, radio, CCTV, help points, and the data network that connects them.

Why it matters

Stations are noisy, cramped, and safety-critical. Comms has to work when passengers most need it — during incidents, evacuations, and disruption.

Whole-lifecycle comms delivery on LU frameworks.

Design principle

One team for the whole station.

The four disciplines above are typically delivered by four different contractors. When something has to work across them — a fire cause-and-effect that involves fans, shutters, PA, and the network — the boundaries between contracts are where problems live.

RP3 exists to deliver the four disciplines as one job. The same team decides the cause-and-effect, installs it, tests it, and looks after it for its lifetime.
